Hypernatraemia should be treated with oral fluids and monitoring of the infant's electrolytes. Severe cases should be treated by the cautious use of hypo-osmotic solutions. A medical review of the patient's condition should be undertaken seven days after initiating treatment or before if symptoms worsen.

If you've been taking Gaviscon for more than 7 days and you're still feeling uncomfortable or in pain, talk to your doctor. What if I forget to take it? Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication. We use medicines to make our children better, but sometimes they have other effects that we don’t want (side-effects). Open the sachet just before use. Your doctor will tell you how much of the powder to use; this will also be shown on the medicine label. Each 2 sachets (20 ml) dose contains 260 mg (6.5 mmol) of calcium. Care needs to be taken in treating patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi. If you usually take Gaviscon regularly but forget to take a dose, do not double your dose the next time. Just leave out the missed dose and take your next dose as normal. For infants aged 1 to 2 years. Not to be used in premature infants or infants under one year except under medical supervision.

Warnings

For breast fed infants give Gaviscon Infant part way through each feed or meal using a spoon or feeding bottle.
