A Maximum High spent a total of 26 weeks in the UK album chart, [13] peaking at number 8 on 13 April 1996, [13] with the Special Edition reissue peaking at number 13. [13] Discounting the band's singles compilation which reached number 7 three years later, [15] chart-wise, A Maximum High is Shed Seven's most successful album to date. It has sold 186,325 copies in the United Kingdom as of November 2017. Joining Shed Seven on tour are special guests MCH - the new venture by Mark Morriss (The Bluetones), Nigel Clark (Dodgy) and Chris Helme (The Seahorses) who have come together as Morriss, Clark and Helme. The three-piece, who, between them, have had multiple platinum-selling records and a string of Top 10 singles, have been busy recording new music which will be revealed later this year. VIA PRESS RELEASE | Originally released on 1st April 1996, A Maximum High is Shed Seven’s crowning recorded achievement to date, charting at number 8 and remaining on the Official UK Album Charts for a triumphant 37 weeks. They belonged to the post- Smiths wave of British musicians such as The Sundays and Marion, with a sound relying heavily on complex guitar arpeggios often in a minor key, and wailing vocals. At the height of their popularity between 1994 and 1999 they had fifteen Top 40 singles [1] and four Top 20 albums in the UK. [2] The band officially broke up in 2003, but reformed for a greatest hits tour in July 2007. [1] Shed Seven continued to play shows around Britain periodically until releasing a new studio album in 2017 with the announcement of Instant Pleasures.

In September 1994, the band released their debut album, Change Giver, entering the UK album chart at number 16 [2] and giving the group their first Gold disc. [5] Despite it spending just two weeks in the chart, the "critically underrated debut album", [10] which NME declared "an attempted stab in the face of their critics", [10] gave the band three UK Top 40 singles. [2] As well as enjoying popularity in both the UK and Australia, Shed Seven also found an audience in Thailand, where they managed to beat Take That to the Christmas number 1 spot with their fourth single release, " Ocean Pie". The following April, "Where Have You Been Tonight?", the first record to emerge from the band's collaboration with their new producer, Chris Sheldon, [5] was issued as their fifth single, peaking at number 23 [5] and continuing the band's chart-placing run. Although the single was "rush released" [11] with the intention of it being followed by a swiftly recorded second album, [11] the band failed to capitalize on the song's success as it became Shed Seven's one and only release throughout 1995. Recorded at various destinations on tour in December 2002, the album was released in May 2003, six months before the band's farewell tour began. Despite gaining a loyal and ever-growing following of fans—sometimes referred to as "Shed Heads" [9]—the band failed to receive universal positive press attention in the UK; NME never featured Shed Seven on its cover, whilst the now defunct Melody Maker did so once. Ahead of their major UK tour later this year, acclaimed leading lights of Britpop Shed Seven have announced 25th-anniversary editions of their celebrated album A Maximum High for release on November 26th.Boy’ and ‘On Standby’, with the York band making appearances on Top Of The Pops no less than four different times during a momentous year. The record spawned five hit singles: ‘Where Have You Been Tonight?’, ‘Getting Better’, ‘Going For Gold’, ‘Bully Boy’ and ‘On Standby’, with the York band making appearances on Top Of The Pops no less than four different times during a momentous year. In 2021, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of A Maximum High, Shed Seven are proud to release two new versions of their magnum opus. By mid-July, several major venues had sold out and a further six concerts were announced, including two extra dates in London's Shepherd's Bush Empire. The revised tour finished on 22 December 2007 at Glasgow's Carling Academy. Paul Banks commented: "None of us could have predicted the overwhelming response to the Shed Seven Reunion Tour. This has now turned into the biggest tour that the band has ever undertaken." Although Shed Seven did not undertake a further tour of their own, 2008 saw the band return to two of the UK's biggest festivals; T in the Park in Balado, Scotland, and V in both Chelmsford and Staffordshire.
