About this deal

Planting a variety of (locally suitable) tree species is likely to create more resilient woodlands in the long term, as species will respond differently to climate change and other environmental factors.

Species to be planted are chosen based on what will flourish at each specific planting location. We focus our attention on areas that will benefit the most, including cities and towns, parks, playgrounds and schoolyards, and along creeks and streams. This episode was released a few times overseas on VHS, VCD, and DVD, often with "Fun on the Farm", a video edition of " E-I-E-I-O". Natural regeneration is less expensive and removes the need for use of tree guards necessary to provide protection from grazing deer and the need to operate machinery – though in many cases deer fencing, which can be expensive, is still needed to protect new growth. If there are nearby hedges, scrubby areas or woodlands that could provide a seed source of native trees and woodland plants, then it is generally best to simply cease any grazing or mowing and wait for nature to ‘move in’ Miss Walker concluded: “We are so thankful for all the support that our school community and the wider community have given the school. The trees were given to the school from the Woodland Trust.Collect local seeds to grow local native trees – a fun activity and a great way to be sure you are planting suitable species. Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki found a method to plant a fully realized forest in 20 to 30 years, while conventional methods take 200 to 300 years. Miyawaki found that trees naturally grew much faster if planted closer together and with precise and intensive soil preparation, over trees that were planted with more traditional methods. The method has been tested over the years and has shown the resulting forest can be 30 times denser, with plant growth 10 times faster – thereby absorbing carbon faster, and can have 20 times increased biodiversity over a traditional newly planted woodland (Miyawaki 1988, Miyawaki 1999, Ranjan et al 2016, Sivabalan et al 2021).

Create a management plan from the outset, including initial aftercare as well as a long-term plan for how the trees will be managed to create a well-structured, semi-natural woodland over time, supporting a rich diversity of wildlife. Well-planned aftercare is essential to ensure your tree planting is successful, this could include: Have native trees planted in Honor or Memory of family and friends, to celebrate Holidays, birthdays, and to observe other special occasions. Your Gift of Trees is actually three gifts - one to someone you care for, one to future generations, and one to the environment. TREE-MENDOUS MARYLAND will arrange for the trees to be planted in Maryland in the county in which the recipient of the certificate lives Trees and wooded areas are known to have stress-busting, mood-boosting superpowers that we are eager to tap into!” If buying ‘whips’ from a commercial supplier, be sure to ask for native species that are suitable for the soil type and pH. Tree-mendous Christmas Experience will be held every Saturday and Sunday from Dec. 2 to Dec. 31, but it will be closed on Dec. 24. Hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Saturdays; 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays; and 1 to 4 p.m. on Christmas Day Dec. 25. Group visits can be scheduled by calling the museum at 641-792-9118.

There’s no map, no blueprint, no directions to follow when it comes to decorating the Jasper County Historical Museum with holiday ornaments and lighted trees. Volunteers rely solely on their intuition and the several months it takes to turn the facility into the Tree-mendous Christmas Experience. Create or restore an orchard – Somerset is the land of scrumpy after all! As well as storing carbon and providing a great pollen source for your neighbourhood bees and butterflies, you will the have a very local source of food and drink to enjoy!

Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki developed a tree planting technique that involves enhancing the soil and planting trees closer together, which results in faster growth than traditional techniques. This faster growth allows carbon to be absorbed faster. Whilst they have been doing these jobs since the beginning of time without a big fuss, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the humble, hardworking tree has been put under the media spotlight and lauded as the ‘instant fix’ for the environmental challenges – both climate and ecological – that our world faces going forwards. We’ve heard people say they’ve seen it before. Well, you haven’t seen it before. Every year is totally different,” Rorabaugh says. “A couple of years we had military exhibits, but this year we’ve got churches and their trees on display. We have a tunnel. We have the high schools doing their own trees.”

Give an Environmental Gift

When it comes to your tree-mendous plans, whether on your own land or with your local community group, what should you be doing to make sure you have the impact you want, and how do you make it work within the bigger landscape picture? Here are our top 5 points to consider… Accept that some trees will fail to establish, but also that as the trees mature, some may need to be removed to provide the room and freedom from competition for the ‘keepers’ to mature into healthy trees. Miss Walker added: “It was a fantastic day, where families and staff came down and spent time teaching each other how to use the equipment and prepare the land.”

It’s different every year,” Carroll says. “We’ve had comments like, ‘Well, we’ve seen it before.’ No, you haven’t! Because it is so different every year. This year we have more decorations, more trees, the tunnel and lots more new areas. If people don’t come see this they’re really missing out! That’s all I can say!” On Saturday, November 11, the school held its first “digging party” where parents and children dug 120 holes in preparation for the trees. Another great way of planting trees is to restore and create hedgerows. Our native hedgerows provide a vital source of food and shelter for many species, as well as providing an important wildlife highway through our busy modern landscape, helping species to move and respond to environmental change. It’s now more vital than ever to re-establish these important wildlife corridors.
