Later, Olivia speaks to Clementine and tells her that she's leaving with Amos and go back to his town. They then set to use Clementine as the "moral compass" for the main player character, establishing her as a "smart, honest, and capable girl" that would reflect on choices made by the player. Still, I want to give credit to the young comics icon Tillie Walden, known for intensely emo comics almost exclusively focused on lesbian teens, in working with Robert Kirkman on this sequel. Game Informer 's Kimberley Wallace describes the character of Clementine as having "broken through the barrier [of the television screen], securing a place in the hearts of many". Clementine is the first of a trilogy set in Robert Kirkman’s Walking Dead world, with the character originating in a spin-off game series.

Lee covers Clementine and himself in walker guts to mask their scent and as they walk through a horde they find Clementine's parents, both turned. In the final Telltale game, after years of wandering the road, Clementine and AJ join a community of teenage survivors living at an old boarding school and make a home for themselves there. Clementine enlists the help of James to do this, and obtains a homemade bomb to destroy the boat after they rescue the others. Clementine made those decisions even more difficult, since her presence forces the player to consider protecting her on another level. I love how this walking dead world story is mostly about physical disabilities and mobility/visual aids in the apocalypse. She begs Clementine not to tell her sister, Clem promises she won't just as Georgia bursts in asking where Amos is, saying that the snowmobile and repaired generator are gone. Clementine looks over the land and asks Olivia to fly over Vermont to show Amos the plane one last time. After some time, Clementine and Ricca make their way back to the camp while waiting for the snow to pick up, so they can use it as cover. Following Telltale's sudden closure in the midst of releasing The Walking Dead: The Final Season, Kirkman acquired the game's assets and brought some of the Telltale staff on to finish the season within his company Skybound Entertainment, as he felt it was necessary to give closure to Clementine's story. If Clementine stayed at Wellington, she and AJ will be cared for by their guardian Edith for the next two years, and when a hostile group attacks Wellington, Clementine is grazed by a bullet escaping from Wellington's destruction by the same hostile group, with her losing Edith.

After leaving the school, she was alone like when she was when he first found her and she realized she was waiting for him to come find her, despite knowing he's dead. Clementine was considered an emotional centerpiece of The Walking Dead game, and several journalists expressed caring for her fate in a way that few other games have been able to capture. The group prepares to leave but Clementine and the boat go missing, and Lee in his haste to find her is bitten by a walker.

Olivia also reveals to Clementine that she has been unconscious for one month and her legs got infected as well. A fairly mild bit of zombie horror spun off from Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead, this graphic novel is actually a sequel to a series of Telltale video games (that I haven't seen) where the Clementine character first appeared. One method this was resolved by was to create the first scenario of the game to put the player in control of Clementine's actions that have disastrous results (the death of one character and being separated from another) as to make the player felt as if they had made those choices and separating them from familiar characters.

I did like some of the more emotional moments, but it didn’t help the only person I care about in this whole book is Clementine. Clementine meets a young boy while on the road and decides to tag along on the boy's journey up a Vermont mountain for contrived reasons, which leads to her helping a society of teenagers build houses on said mountains. Walden does well by capturing this narrative in her signature style, both in terms of character-driven storytelling and her mesmerizing art. I did find that sometimes it can be hard to follow the action sequences and takes more than a passing glance to tell which character is which at times, but it doesn’t deter. I mean, if the zombies are that easy to get rid of and serve zero purpose, they may as well not be there.Kirkman again alluded to a possible future work involving Clementine at the 2020 virtual New York Comic Con.
